Schaeffer Jo, the last day of school

Schaeffer Jo, the first day of school

There are few things as rewarding as a mom than celebrating the success’ of your children. This school year has been filled with great moments for Schaeffer–both big and small. I’m so proud of who she is and who she is becoming–I feel like each day is a new opportunity to learn something about this extraordinary person who happens to be my child.

There have been ‘catch phrases’ in our home during this school year, words that Schaeffer not only knows the meaning of, but also has had to incorporate into her daily life. Words like perseverance, delayed gratification, focus, and persistence. Small motor skills have been a challenge–but she’s demonstrated great persistence in writing her name, even mastering every last letter in her (long) name. Schaeffer had great opportunity at the beginning of the school year to show the love of Jesus to a friend who wasn’t acting very lovable–and demonstrated great perseverance, even when she was bullied on the playground and in Sunday School. Griffin and I were so proud of her leadership and compassion.

More than anything, I am overwhelmed with the great privilege it is to be your mom, Schaeffer. You teach me new things daily. I can’t wait to see how you continue to grow and develop in the years to come. I love you, jelly bean.

A school year well done.
