the view of Lake Michigan from the 7th green

Dad, teeing it up on the 7th hole

I’ve been waiting years to play Harbor Shores. I remember when the rumors that a ‘prestiguous golf community’ was making it’s way to Benton Harbor began–at a time when my office building was directly across the street from the course.

At the time, the projected site was nothing more than an industrial waste sight, a fenced off and ugly eye sore. Slowly, month by month, tons of contaminated soil were carted away, the ground was reshaped, dilapidated buildings were razed and the beginnings of a golf course began to take shape.

It’s remarkable really, that this once brownsite has been transformed into a breath-taking golf course and resort. This spring the course hosted it’s first SPGA event, with another already on the calendar for 2014.  A major win for our community!
